Toronto Police are spending half a million dollars to test out body cameras on some of their officers. The pilot project will last a year, and Hamilton police will be watching closely. 100 Toronto Police officers will wear one of the three new body cameras being tested. Police say the cameras will only be activated whenever there is a call for service or someone is being investigated. All of the encrypted video will be stored on a police server for a year. Police say officers must tell people when the cameras are operating, and have been trained on privacy and human rights issues.

Hamilton police say they are closely monitoring the pilot project in Toronto but are also conducting their own research and will report back to board members in November.
