Toronto Police reveal more on Project Traveller raids

Toronto police updated the media Friday on Project Traveller – the huge sting targeting a gang known as the Dixon City Bloods or the Dixon Goonies that took place Thursday morning.

Friday morning, they put on display the weapons, drugs and cash they seized when officers burst into the homes of suspected drug and gun traffickers. 28 people were arrested Thursday; a total of 43 have been charged in the year-long investigation. Deputy chief Peter Sloly says this demonstrates how community mobilization works.

“It’s a fancy word. It’s a simple concept. Making sure that the problems that this community faced don’t come back in again.”

“Making sure that the gang that has been dismantled doesn’t form again. Making sure that a new gang doesn’t form in the vacuum of the one that was just dismantled.”

“Making sure that the community feels safer, and is safer. Not just for a few days or a few weeks or a few months, but going forward is a safe, safer community.”

Under a new initiative they call Project Clean Slate, police say they’ll go into the Dixon Road neighbourhood and strategically deal with the issues facing the Somali community.
