One solution to protests over police actions is for officers to wear lapel cameras.

Toronto police recently wrapped up a year-long pilot project, where some officers were equipped with cameras, as part of their uniforms. While the cameras are always recording, they’re not always saving. An officer must push a button to make the camera record, so that the footage can be used as part of an investigation.

The pilot projects leader in Toronto says the cameras have had a positive effect, and what happens in Toronto could influence forces in the rest of Ontario, as most of the province’s police forces are waiting to hear the results of the project.
