Toronto man drowns in Welland River

The Niagara police dive team was called out again.

This time to the Welland River in Chippawa where a 27 year old Toronto man disappeared under the surface of the water. He jumped into the water off the Weightman bridge fully clothed. People nearby tried to rescue him.

Those who know the area say the current in that area moves very fast.

The victim’s body was recovered around 9 pm. His name is not being released.
