Tornado warnings issued for parts of Southern Ontario Thursday

Not only is Southern Ontario dealing with extreme heat, severe thunderstorms have been passing through ahead of a cold front. This afternoon Environment Canada issued Tornado Warnings for Belleville, Quinte, Northumberland, Stirling and Tweed and Tornado Watches for the eastern tip of Southern Ontario.
Ping pong size hail has been reported and downed power lines. The risk of severe weather including the heat will taper off early this evening.
“Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.”
“The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.”
