Too drunk to be guilty?

Can you be too drunk to be guilty of a violent crime? That’s a question the Supreme Court of Canada will be looking at today.  The country’s top court will be deciding if it will weigh in on the defence of extreme intoxication. Critics worry an earlier decision will allow a person accused of a violent crime to argue they did not know what they were doing. The Ontario Court of Appeal set aside convictions in two cases after finding part of the law unconstitutional. The relevant provision bars a person from using self-induced extreme intoxication as a defence.
