UPDATE

The cause of a fatal fire in Ohsweken is still under investigation.

The fire started just before 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Firefighters from Ohsweken and Brant County arrived to a fully-involved blaze inside a home on Fourth Line.

A family of nine were living inside – two adults and seven children.

Crews were able to rescue most of the family but a three-year-old boy was trapped. He was eventually rescued and rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office were at the scene today along with a forensic engineer – sifting through debris and gathering evidence.

They say it’s too early to determine how the fire started and are estimating damages to be about $150,000.

A Go-Fund-Me page has also been set up for the family.
