Today is Lincoln Alexander Day.
Alexander was a Canadian lawyer who became the first Black MP in the House of Commons in 1968, serving Hamilton.
He was also the first Black federal cabinet minister in the Joe Clark government and also served as the 24th lieutenant-governor of Ontario from 1985 to 1991.

There are schools across Ontario named after him and in Hamilton , the Lincoln Alexander Parkway was named in his honour.

He was born on Jan. 21, 1922. He died on Oct. 19, 2012.
“Today, we pay tribute to a true trailblazer and inspiration to the next generation of leaders and all Ontarians, Lincoln Alexander,” said Premier Doug Ford in a statement.
“The events of this past year are a wakeup call to all of us to renew our commitment to fighting racism, hate and discrimination in all its forms. Our government remains committed to ending racism in Ontario and empowering Black Ontarians.”
