Tocher testifies at Chanthachack inquest

Hamilton Police officer Ryan Tocher, who shot and killed a man in a stolen van last February, testified today. It was the fourth day of an inquest into the death.

Tocher was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Special Investigations Unit. He gave details leading up to the shooting, telling the court he fired shots at Chanthachack after he drove the van toward him.

Tocher says he was then thrown off of the car, and fired one shot at the side of the van. he then fired a second shot when he began driving the van forward again. he says he didn’t realize it at the time, but the final shot was found to be what killed Chanthachack.
