Late October, before a Ticats game, a major transformer problem forced the city to use a back up generator. Today there are a lot of things going on ahead of the game at Tim Hortons Field but overall the city says there are no safety concerns.

“We called in the manufacturers from Seamans and the engineers to review and retest both transformers. We did find in one of the transformers, there were five loose bolts, they tightened the bolts up and after the testing both transformers are running at their capacity.” Rob Gatto, City of Hamilton.

The $145 million stadium runs off two transformers. One of those transformers failed two days before a Ticat game. As a precaution, the city shut down the second one.

“We wanted to be proactive and to make sure the game went on so we thought it would be best to bring in two generators.”

The generators cost $17 000. The city is hoping to get some of that back from the transformer manufactures. With several other deficiencies, the city launched a six week investigation. A report has been submitted but the results have not yet been published.
