In the Crosswind is a historical drama and the first feature from Estonian director Martti Helde. From the official synopsis:

In 1941, an Estonian woman and her young daughter struggle to find their way home after being deported to Siberia by the Soviet occupiers, in this dreamlike saga of survival inspired by a true story.

The film is rendered entirely in black and white tableaus, which the camera weaves through like a 3D painting. We got to ask Martti Helde about the unusual but dreamlike shooting technique and the great lengths he went to in order to get his shots.
