Tickets were a hoax

There was a bit of a information mix-up involving a Hamilton City Councillor and the new transit-only lane on King Street.

The new transit-only lane is the right or north lane only which means it’s only for buses, HSR and GO. Last night, Councillor Brian McHattie claimed that police handed out tickets to 20 drivers who were using the transit lane when they weren’t supposed to. But it turns out that it didn’t happen. Hamilton police Chief Glenn de Caire says police did not issue any tickets, and says whoever called McHattie was playing a hoax. Police were handing out educational pamphlets.

McHattie, who recently announced he will be running for mayor, says he did not confirm the anonymous call and he moved too fast. He has also apologized to the Chief.
