Ticats announce $5 million investment

(Update)
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats held a news conference Tuesday afternoon to let the public know that they’re investing $5-million dollars in improvements for both the fans and the players at Tim Hortons Field. They claim it will have the most comfortable seats, the finest foods and world class athletic facilities. But we still don’t know if it’s going to be ready for that first game on July 26th.
With the help of some great visual presentations, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have made it very easy for fans to get excited about Tim Hortons Field. And now, team owner Bob Young announced he’ll contribute $5-million dollars of his own money to make the building even better than fans originally expected.
Team Head Coach Kent Austin: “A great locker room, a great weight room, things like that. All of that goes into the culture you’re trying to build. A culture of excellence.”
The red sections you see here indicate the areas of Tim Hortons Field that have already been sold out — they account for more than 50 percent of the stadium’s capacity — and they’ve been sold even though the Tiger-Cats can’t say exactly when they’ll be moving in.
Team President and COO Glenn Gibson: “Yah, it’s a concern — and in the background we’re working hard on contingency planning so we can work our way through what the backup plans might be.”
Gibson preferred to discuss the stadium’s new catering company than divulge exactly what those contingency plans are. But construction isn’t the only possible delay. The league and the players’ association have yet to agree on a new contract — with only forty days to go before training camp begins.
As always, Bob Young remains optimistic: “Our interests are aligned. We both want to build the best football league in North America. Just because you fight with your spouse, doesn’t mean you don’t love them.”
