Three Hamilton police officers have been taken to hospital with stab wounds to the neck and head after responding to a ‘person in crisis’ call on James St. N. near Cannon St.

Const. Krista-Lee Ernst said the officers are in stable condition.

A 24-year old man from Oakville has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer x 3, resisting arrest and weapons dangerous. He was also taken to hospital for unspecified medical treatment.

Police say this all began with a 911 call about a suspicious person who was believed to have a weapon. Witnesses say the man was walking up and down James street, calling out and cursing. When police arrived witnesses say he tried to escape and that is when the stabbing occurred.

The three injured officers were all taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

A taser could be seen lying on the ground, but officers will not confirm if it was used on the man. Police are not saying what kind of weapon was involved, and would not confirm if the weapon was recovered.

Witnesses are asked to contact Hamilton police.
