Thorold auto parts store fire extinguished

A fire at an auto parts store in Thorold has been extinguished after nearly 12 hours.
The fire began at around 3:23 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.It was extinguished around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Niagara police closed Beaverdams Road at Collier Road South and Beaverdams Road at Baker Street on Tuesday.
Police advised residents and businesses in the area to remain indoors, shelter in place, and close all windows.
The store is ‘406 Auto Parts’ and sustained extensive damage that is expected to be in the millions. Thorold’s Fire Chief, Terry Dixon, says the building housed four other businesses as well.
An excavator was brought on scene to pull the building apart so fire crews could extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
