With a third of its workforce ready to retire, Dofasco goes on the hunt for hundreds of new employees

An ageing workforce means new opportunities at one of Hamilton’s steel giants.
Currently 30% of ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s workforce is eligible for retirement. On Saturday the company is hosting their first ever job fair and are looking to hire 200 new employees for a variety of positions. Everything from skilled trades, electricians, millwrights, information technology workers.
Despite Canada’s ongoing battle with the U.S. over tariffs on steel, the company and employees say many investments are being made.
Dofasco says hiring new employees is an investment itself. Over the years the company has partnered with Mohawk College and McMaster University to get young people interested in skill trades.
The job fair runs from 9 to 3 on Saturday at Dofasco’s main office on Burlington st.
