Police are investigating two thefts that happened at jewellery stores in Niagara Region on Monday.

The first incident happened around 6 p.m. at Seawell Mall on Niagara St. in Welland.

Police say a man entered the Tianna Jewellery store and asked an employee for help finding a chain necklace.

“As the employee pulled out a pallet of chains, the unknown male grabbed the pallet and ran out of the store,” said police in a news release.

Less than an hour later, officers were called to the Pen Center on Glendale Ave. in St. Catharines for reports of a theft.

Police learned a man had walked into the Charm Diamond Centre and asked to see some necklaces. The thief then grabbed the necklaces and ran out of the store.

Police describe the suspect as being six-feet, with black hair and a medium build. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a yellow circle and white markings in the middle, and a medical mask.

The suspect vehicle was a grey Chevy sedan with a tinted license plate.
