Halton police have released images of six men who are accused of stealing purses and wallets from seniors at grocery stores throughout the region.

Police say the group has been involved in 16 thefts between April 2021 and March 2022.

The suspects target older adults in retail and grocery store settings and work in pairs to distract the victims.

One of the men will start a conversation with the victim while the other steals a wallet or purse.

“In some instances, the older adult’s vehicles are also entered while one suspect distracts the victim by loading their groceries,” said Halton police in a news release.

Police say in many cases, the victim’s personal identification number was also stolen, and the tap functions of their financial cards were used to make fraudulent purchases.

Police estimate more than $25,000 was lost during the incidents.
