The Overnight is an adult comedy written and directed by Patrick Brice (Creep). The film was picked up for distribution after it premiered at Sundance earlier this year. The film stars Taylor Schilling, Jason Schwartzman, Judith Godrèche, and Adam Scott who produced the film alongside the Duplass Brothers, Mark and Jay.

Alex, Emily, and their son, RJ, have recently moved to Los Angeles’ Eastside from Seattle. Feeling lost in a new city, they are desperate to find their first new friends. After a chance meeting with Kurt at the neighborhood park, they gladly agree to join family pizza night at the home. But as it gets later and the kids go to bed, the family “playdate” becomes increasingly more revealing and bizarre as the couples begin to open up.

Talking to Slant Magazine, Adam Scott revealed that he never really expected to make The Overnight. “…the script really freaked me out. And so I just sort of thought movies never get made, so let’s agree to do this just to get something going. Even though there was a seven-percent chance that this would happen, I happen to be married to a very tenacious producer, and so nine months later we had a start date. And then I was like, ‘Oh ****, now I’ve got to do all of this stuff.'”

The Overnight is rated 18A.
