The Midsummer’s Night Dream Summer Festival

It started as a dream to get people together to celebrate, regardless of their race, gender or background. For the second year in a row, the Midsummer’s Night Dream Summer Festival did just that.

This is the second year in a row the event is taking place at Gage Park. It includes live music, and some food trucks, but the festival is really about the colour.

Every half hour since 2:30 this afternoon, people were gathering in the middle of the field to sprinkle each other with a rainbow of colour. They were lining up continuously to buy packets of neon coloured powder.

The festival is based on the Indian religious festival called “Holi”, where people throw bright coloured powder at one another to celebrate the arrival of spring, as well as to simply play and dance. This now annual festival at Gage Park was the idea of Stoneycreek resident Mark Gowland. He said he saw a video showing people celebrating Holi, and became inspired to organize something similar.
