Day 2 at TIFF was a huge success as Matt Damon, Rachel Wiesz and Kate Mara walked the red carpet.
Rachel Wiesz stars alongside Colin Farrell and John C. Reily in “The Lobster” directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.
It takes place in the dystopian near future where single people are forced to find a mate, or be transformed into an animal. It won the Jury Prize at Cannes.
Rachel Weisz took time for her fans outside Princess of Wales, before heading inside to praise her director. She says there is one reason she decided to act in ‘The Lobster’. “Yorgos Lanthimos the director. I had seen his film Dogtooth and I pursued him…doggedly until he gave me a job basically.”
Lanthimos, saw things a bit differently. “She likes to present it that way but we met a little while ago, she knew my work, I knew her work and we decided we wanted to work together.”
When it comes to the film however, the director says different interpretations are welcome. ” What is the core message? Is there one? No, there is not. We do construct our films in a way that we hope other people will just think about these themes that we’re exposing and situations that’s we’re exposing. So basically our films ask a lot of questions and hopefully people will engage and start thinking a lot about those things and have their own answers and versions of the film.”
