The Legend of Tarzan

The Legend of Tarzan is an action adventure directed by David Yates (Harry Potter 5-8). The film skips over Tarzan’s origins to portray him as a newly civilized aristocratic man. The film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Djimon Hounsou, Jim Broadbent, and Christoph Waltz.
It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie), at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the King of Belgium’s envoy, Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
“The story plays out within the historical context of what was happening in the Congo at that time, which I found very compelling,” says Yates. “And it also had themes that always intrigue me—with a character still figuring out who he is and where he truly belongs. Most importantly, when I first read the script, I felt I’d found something that had a big, beating heart.”
The Legend of Tarzan is rated PG.
