Currently, the Norfolk County flag includes a dogwood flower, a plant native to the area. However, after next week, it could be replaced with a donut? Not likely, but the county is trying to get people to visit by tempting their tastebuds.

When it comes to official symbols, Norfolk County has an idea you can sink your teeth into, with the apple cider donut

“When you talk to people in the community about The Apple Place the first thing they talk about is the apple cider donut.”

Trying to get Norfolk’s name out there, Greg and Hayden created a social media campaign to make this sugary pastry Norfolk’s official treat

“Starts with a donut for sure, but when you grab a donut you talk and we’re going to get them talking about Norfolk a lot because of a donut.”

Within a month, 2300 signatures were collected and next week, council will determine if Norfolk is suddenly Ontario’s sweetest community.

“If there are no objections then it will be approved as the official donut of Norfolk and we’ll be the first in Canada.”

About 70 dozen apple cider donuts are churned out every day. If it becomes Norfolk’s official donut, The Apple Place might need some expansion.
