Tesla could soon be opening its largest sales gallery and service centre in Canada with the proposed site right here in Hamilton.

The auto-maker is working towards opening a 60,000 square-foot Tesla Center at Cadillac Fairview’s Lime Ridge Mall.

The facility will be built in the former “The Bay Home/Home Outfitters” location on the east side of the mall, allowing for a vacant portion of the mall to be redeveloped.

Due to the servicing and repairing of electric vehicles, in addition to the sale of electric vehicles, Tesla requires a minor variance in order to use the Lime Ridge Mall site.

Cadillac Fairview’s Senior Director is looking to obtain the minor variance at the city’s committee of adjustment meeting on Feb. 2.

Tesla Canada’s Senior Real Estate Manager, Kyle Mazzone, said in a letter to the owner of Cadillac Fairview that the automaker plans to have a showroom and service area where some basic service work will be done, including software updates and tire replacements.

The proposed facility would generate approximately 50 new jobs.
