Tentative deal reached between Unifor and Ford Canada

The union representing 6,700 autoworkers at Ford’s Canadian operations has reached a tentative deal with the automaker averting a strike.
The four-year deal was reached after last night’s midnight deadline and was announced just before 12:30am by Unifor National President Jerry Dias.
A $700 million product investment was secured after lengthy contract talks between Unifor and Ford.
The deal with Ford is the third of the big Detroit three; agreements were also reached with both GM and Fiat-Chrysler over the last few months.
Dias says the majority of the investment will be going to one of its two engine plants in Windsor, saying the investment will put the plants “at the top of the food chain for powertrain operations.”
Dias also said they were able to ensure the Oakville facilities are going to be the primary builder for export vehicles internationally.
The agreement includes similar lump-sum payments, wage and benefit improvements recently negotiated with GM and Fiat-Chrysler.
The deal is set for ratification this weekend. Unifor is recommending that its members accept
