When it comes to teen drug use and abuse, painkillers are second only to pot.

Health officials say that the number is rising at an alarming rate.

In an effort to keep painkillers away from teens checking the medicine cabinet instead of the liquor cabinet for a buzz, a drug drop-off will be held this Saturday at locations around the Niagara Region.

They say that across North America, 25 hundred young people start abusing painkillers every day like
codeine and oxycontin.

Prescriptions that more and more teens are stealing from their parents medicine cabinets.

This Saturday, Niagara Police and Public Health Officials are holding another prescription drug drop off day at five locations around the region.
