A young couple is in hospital fighting for their lives after the car they were driving smashed into a tree in West Lincoln last night.
Family have identified the two victims injured in last night’s crash as 19-year-old Eli Levesque and 18-year-old Morgan Yates. Both were residents of Welland.
Police say Levesque and Yates, who is 4 months pregnant, were travelling east bound on Regional Road 20 near Rosedene road when their 2005 Chevrolet Malibu veered off the road slamming into a tree around 8 last night. Levesque, who was driving the car, was air lifted to Hamilton General while Yates, who was sitting in the passenger seat was taken by ambulance. According to family both remain in the intensive care unit, but are in stable condition.
That stretch of Regional Road 20 is straight and neighbours say drivers are often speeding, but Niagara regional police say it is too early to know why the driver lost control. They are examining the vehicle for any clues but are hoping the two victims will recover from their injuries to provide those answers.
