Teen Lust is a Canadian comedy co-written and directed by Blaine Thurier (Low Self-Esteem Girl). The film premiered last year at TIFF and stars Jesse Carere, Daryl Sabara, Annie Clark, Jon Dore, Emmanuelle Vaugier, and Cary Elwes.

Awkward high school student, Neil, has always had trouble talking to girls. Growing up with strange parents and adhering to their unusual religion isn’t helping his social life either. The virginity pledge he took at church seems easy enough to keep until he learns its true purpose. At his “conformation”, Neil finds himself on a stone altar about to become a virgin sacrifice to Satan. With his friend Matt’s help he breaks free and escapes into the night on a mission to lose his virginity and save his life.

“The idea for Teen Lust came from when I was trying to put together a story with high stakes,” explains Thurier. “I thought, ‘What’s a shared experience that everybody has?’ Losing their virginity. ‘What is the highest stakes for losing your virginity?’ Dying if you don’t. So that’s where the idea came from. It also serves as a kind of metaphor for being a young person with powerful urges because it feels like sometimes when you’re that age – well, even at this age – it feels like you’re going to die if you don’t get some. I think it’s a pretty unique concept.”

Teen Lust is rated 14A.
