Teen killed in Niagara Gorge fall
A teen is dead and a Niagara police officer has been hurt, after both went over a guard wall in Niagara Falls Tuesday evening.
It happened just after 5 pm as the office chased after the teen.
The officer was raised from about 30 metres down in the gorge around 7 pm and airlifted to Hamilton General with a broken leg.
The body of the teen, who has been identified by friends as 16-year old Ryan Dube of Niagara Falls, was brought out by firefighters about 8:30 pm.
There are reports the teen was involved in some sort of fight at a nearby youth shelter that led to police being called.
Because he died while being chased by a police officer, Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is now in charge, and they’re not releasing any further information at this time.
