A disturbing string of recent violent crimes, including murder, has all involved teenagers.
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of 42-year old Dwayne Bride. A stranger he allegedly mouthed off to then stabbed. Bride died hours after he was attacked near Hess and Bold streets while on his way home from a bar.
Three 17-year-old female sex workers were arrested for the second-degree murder of a 33-year-old Mississauga man. Hayder Qasim Rushdi was stabbed in the neck and stumbled into a Stoney Creek gas station covered in blood in May.
Thursday night there was a stabbing on Queenston road after a fight on the street between two 16 year olds. Police believe one of the teens slashed the other, he was taken to hospital with minor injuries. They are still looking for the teen with the knife.
Also on Thursday four Hamilton teens were charged after police raided a home in Stoney Creek. They found six long-armed guns believed to have been stolen during a break-in the day before. An 18-year-old, a 16-year-old and two 15-year-olds are each facing break and enter and weapons charges.
And last month two teens were arrested after a group of young people stormed a Holly avenue home. A 46 year old man was shot but survived
Despite this police say, “If you compare the same time period in 2016 to this year in 2017 overall youth crime is actually down 18%.”
