Teen charged after police use spike belt to stop stolen vehicle: OPP

A 19-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly fled from police in a stolen vehicle in Norfolk County.

Ontario Provincial Police were called to a home on Blueline Rd. for reports of a stolen vehicle.

Officers arrived on scene and tried to stop the vehicle but the driver fled the area. Police used a spike belt to safely stop the vehicle on Haldimand 20 and the teenage driver was arrested.

Andrew Veldhuis, of Mount Hope, is facing numerous charges including dangerous operation, operation while impaired, and possession property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He is scheduled to appear in a Simcoe court at a later date.
