Teen charged after crying wolf about a gun at Hamilton high school

Hamilton police have charged a teenager after they falsely led officers to believe one of their peers brought a gun to school.
On March 21, police were called to Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary High School for reports of a student who had pointed a gun at another student.
When police arrived, they believed the gunman might still be inside the school. As a result, the building was placed under a hold and secure.
Officers eventually arrested the student who was believed to have a gun, but shortly thereafter discovered there was no gun at all.
Instead, the investigation revealed that the student who sounded the alarm had actually attacked another student with a can of bear spray. In order to cover up their actions, they concocted a story about a gun.
Police placed the teen under arrest on March 26, and charged them with the following:
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Administering noxious thing
- Public mischief
