Tech expert speaks on DNA testing company filing for bankruptcy protection

Genetic testing company 23andMe has filed for bankruptcy protection in the U.S. after years of struggling financially.
The company which went public in 2021 never made a profit and last year slashed 40 per cent of its work force as part of cost-cutting measures.
In a statement released on Sunday, 23andMe says a court-supervised sale process is the best way to maximize the value of the business.
The sale will include customers genetic data and that has many worried about privacy, and what that data may be used for.
California’s attorney general even issued a consumer alert advising customers to delete their accounts immediately.
CHCH spoke with tech expert Carmi Levy about what could happen to 23andMe customer’s genetic data and how Canadians can protect themselves.
