Taxi fleet owners licence suspended

48 taxis are about to be forced off the road in Hamilton after the company’s owner had his licences suspended.
The city wants to yank the taxi licence of Jasper Gill, who owns one of Hamilton’s largest cab fleets, Hamilton Cab as a result of alleged safety violations and repeated convictions.
Gill rents out to almost 100 drivers in Hamilton, but he leases most of the taxi plates and he needs a valid taxi licence to keep the cars, and drivers, on the road.
Gill says he and other taxi companies are being unfairly targeted while Uber cab’s are getting away with not complying with City of Hamilton bylaws.
The city laid charges against 8 Uber drivers last month. Gill will face a tribunal hearing on Tuesday.
