Tammy

Tammy is a comedy film by first time director Ben Falcone. The film finds Tammy, played by Melissa McCarthy, down on her luck with no car, no cash, no job, and no husband after she finds him getting cozy with the neighbour. With Tammy’s grandmother Pearl (Susan Sarandon) being the only source of a vehicle and cash that Tammy can rely on, she finds herself on an adventure to Niagara Falls which is not exactly the escape she was looking for. The cast also includes Susan Sarandon, Allison Janney, Gary Cole, Mark Duplass, Toni Collette, Nat Faxon, Dan Aykroyd, and Kathy Bates.
McCarthy and Falcone, married since 2005, have worked together before, but this is the first time they’ve written together for the big screen. It’s also the first time Falcone has had a chance to direct his wife on screen. “I guess you could say it was literally a dream come true,” he explains. “I always love writing with Melissa, but to get to direct her was incredible because she’s so talented and, of course, funny.” McCarthy adds, “Ben and I had always talked about writing a movie about real people who mess up and have to decide if they are going to keep making mistakes or change things. Since Ben has been directing theatre and comedy videos for years, we felt it was a natural progression for him to direct “Tammy.”
Tammy is rated 14A.
