Syria’s President Assad predicts he will win civil war

Syria’s President Bashar Al Assad issued a statement today predicting his forces will win the civil war. This comes after at least 40 people were killed and dozens were injured in Homs yesterday.

Residents of Homs, many of whom support Assad, say rebels targeted an ammunition depot with a rocket. The explosion reportedly sent a massive fireball into the sky.

The blast crushed cars and blew through walls. The incident coincided with a rare trip by Assad; he was visiting a former rebel stronghold to mark army day.

This is his first known trip outside Syria’s capital in more than a year.
