Suspicious package prompts evacuation at Canada Post site in Stoney Creek

Workers at a Canada Post mail processing plant in Stoney Creek had to evacuate Thursday after receiving a suspicious package.
Emergency crews responded shortly after 1 p.m. to the facility on Millen Rd. for a Level 2 hazmat call.
“Issue is contained within the property and there are no reported concerns to residents’ safety in the area,” said Steve Welton, Hamilton’s assistant deputy fire chief.

The Hamilton Fire Department is currently investigating but police say they will take the lead if the incident is deemed criminal in nature.
Arrangements were also made to support Canada Post staff who were outside following the evacuation.
