Suspicious package found near Hamilton school
On April 26, shortly before 10:00am, the Hamilton Police received phone calls that a suspicious package had just been discovered at a home on Simcoe Street between Hughson Street North and John Street North.
It was believed that the package contained unignited flammable liquids and that it was suspected of being intentionally thrown at the property but it was not clear when that may have took place.
The Hamilton Police Emergency Response unit and police resources immediately responded to the area to investigate and ensure public safety.
Police notified the staff at Bennetto Elementary School and the school was placed in a temporary “Hold and Secure” to ensure everyone’s safety while police resources were on scene.
The surrounding area were also restricted for a short period of time and residents in close proximity were alerted but it was determined that no further evacuation was required.
The Hamilton Police Emergency Response Unit quickly resolved the matter and rendered the package safe.
The possible motive for the incident is not yet known.
There were no injuries to anyone and no one was at the location at the time of the incident.
The school has since lifted its “Hold and Secure.”
It is possible that somebody may have broken into the home, however; the investigation is ongoing.
If anyone has any information about this incident is to contact Hamilton Police or Crime Stoppers.
