Businesses in the plaza, including a daycare, were evacuated and police blocked off the parking lot while Hamilton Police bomb technicians x-rayed the package.

Const. Steve Welton says the investigation revealed the briefcase was empty and it has since been discarded.

Police say they are no longer investigating and the area is now safe.
