Hamilton Police have deemed there was no public safety or environmental issue after a suspicious package was found at Quantum Murray.

A truck operator who was delivering a load of metal waste set off the radiation detectors upon entering the facilities yard, which was in the area of Strathearn Avenue.

The Hamilton fire department and HAZMAT team were called and helped locate the source of the radiation.

Police say employees of Quantum Murray and two neighbouring facilities were removed from the area as a precaution.

Officers say the radiation levels emitted from the package were later deemed safe.
