Suspicious package detonated; 2 arrested

(Updated) Two people are in custody after police say they found what they’re calling an incendiary device in the trunk of a car in downtown Toronto early this morning.

The police bomb squad and the emergency task force were called in after police pulled over a vehicle at King and Peter Streets around 3:30 this morning, and found a suspicious package in the vehicle’s truck. A robot was used to examine the suspicious package, which appeared to be a small blue duffel bag.

The device was removed by a bomb squad robot and detonated nearby.

Police said the incident is believed to be connected to an arson investigation they’ve been conducting over the past two weeks.
