Survivors and family of those killed on the Danforth call for a handgun ban

It’s been seven months since the deadly shooting in Toronto’s Danforth neighbourhood. An event that shook the country and now victims and families are speaking out publicly for the first time, sharing their stories and calling on the Federal government to take action to combat gun violence.

18 year old Reese Fallan was fatally shot after Faisal Hussain opened fire on people enjoying the night of July 22nd 2018. She and her friends were out celebrating a birthday.

10 year old Julianna Kozis was also killed and 13 others were wounded.

The families and victims today urged the Prime Minister to ban private ownership of hand guns and assault rifles.

The group is calling on Canadians and all MP’s to sign the petition that supports the ban at Triggerchange.ca.

“Because Reese and Julianna aren’t here anymore we are doing this in their honour. No family should ever have to go through what mine and the Kozis’ do.” Quinn Fallon, Reese Fallon’s sister.

The petition outlines that countries like the UK, Australia and Japan have shown that strict gun control laws lead to dramatically lower homicide and crime rates.

“These weapons are designed to kill people. They are taken from people who shoot at paper targets and they are shooting at real people now.” Patrick Macleod, daughter was shot.

Canada’s minister of organized crime reduction is already exploring a ban on handguns and assault weapons. Bill Blair is touring the country and consulting with Canadians, his report is expected in the coming weeks.
