This weekend marks the 7th anniversary of Supercrawl, and this year, it’s expected to draw more than 150 thousand people over the course of the weekend. As Donna Skelly reports , the festival has helped define Hamilton as an arts and music destination, contributing millions into the local economy.

It began 7 years ago, an extension of the monthly arts crawl, when three thousand people turned out on a rainy Friday night for Supercrawl. 7 years and a million dollars later, Supercrawl has become one of the biggest tourist attractions for the city of Hamilton.

By the end of the weekend organizers expect 165, 000 people will have attended this three day event. In terms of an economic impact, last year it generated 14 million dollars for the city but that was an exceptional year with exceptional weather. This year they expect to make at least 10 million.

10 million dollars that will be spent in local restaurants, galleries and hotels – many of which are filled.
