The documentary film Sunshine Superman follows Carl Boenish, the pioneer of BASE Jumping and avid skydiver. Directed by Marah Starauch the film utilizes archive footage including Boenish’s own 16mm shots. According to the director, “the film is on the surface about discovering a new extreme sport, in the 1980’s in California. On a deeper level the film explores themes of death, obsession and living an authentic life despite the consequences.”

It’s a jaw-dropping journey, in both life, and love, to the pinnacle of Boenish’s achievements when he
and wife Jean broke the BASE jumping Guinness World Record in 1984 on the Norwegian ‘Troll Wall’
mountain range. But triumph was followed by disaster.

Sunshine Superman gets a limited release at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema in Toronto on June 5th before expanding to Waterloo’s Princess Cinema on June 12th. The film is rated PG.
