Student housing break & enter

Last night six young students living near McMaster University came face to face with a man breaking into their home.

Hamilton police say it happened on Gary Street around 10:30 p.m. The man broke in and demanded drugs and appeared to have a gun.

Luckily no one in the home was injured and one student was able to call 911.

The suspect may have suffered injuries while the students tried to restrain him.

Police say the man fled but left evidence at the student housing residence that they are processing now.

McMaster University lists a number of off-campus residence buildings on Gary Street, but police are unable to say what school the students are attending.

The man is described as :
Male, 57
Black
160lbs with a skinny build.
Wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
