Stubborn fire in north Hamilton

A stubborn blaze kept Hamilton fire crews busy Thursday afternoon…

A fire started in a pile of scrap material at the rear of the storage yard of Triple M Metals near some Brampton Street businesses.

The burning old car dashes and seats in the container were creating columns of thick black smoke.

While firefighters were putting out the blaze — they asked businesses in the path of the fire to evacuate.

The fire was deep seated within the pile of material and was only extinguished after an extensive overhaul that required the pulling apart of the pile utilizing the company’s heavy equipment on site.

The cause of the fire was suspected to be hot metal which went through the recycling process and became inserted in the pile of waste material which was combustible.

No dollar loss was pinned on the fire and no injuries were reported.

Streets in the Brampton and Parkdale areas were closed for several hours.
