Strong winds sweep through St. Jacobs

Environment Canada says it wasn’t a tornado that hit St. Jacobs over the weekend.

It was severe straight line winds that ripped through the farmers’ market on Saturday afternoon.

Five people were injured in the storm. At the market, roof tops were lifted from vendors’ tents and heavy rain flooded several areas.

In nearby Heidelberg, the storm tore branches off of large trees.

The cleanup will continue today. Damage to one church in the area is estimated at $300,000
