Strike mandate from U.S. Steel workers

Workers at the U.S. Steel Lake Erie plant in Nanticoke have given their union a very strong strike mandate.

But U.S. Steel has already set the wheels in motion to lock them out, possibly as early as Monday. Union leaders say U.S. Steel wants across the board concessions again. The company feels its employees in Nanticoke are more expensive per-hour compared to its U.S. plants, but the union says they’re actually less expensive when it comes to cost per tonne of production. A lock-out at the Nanticoke plant in 2010 lasted 8 months.
