Strike at 27 GTA Metro Stores averted with tentative agreement

Metro workers in the Greater Toronto Area will not be striking after a tentative agreement has been made between them and the union overnight Wednesday.

A strike was set to begin as of midnight Wednesday after one hundred percent of workers voted to strike back in May.

The decision to strike was cited by demands for better pay, health and sick benefits and stable work hours.

Affected stores included locations in Oakville, Milton and Brantford.

The union released a statement around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday stating that a tentative agreement has been reached with the 3,700 affected Metro employees.

While the details of the agreement have not been released, local union president Gord Currie says the committee is “incredibly proud” of the terms.

A ratification vote by union members for the agreement is set for the coming weeks.
