Stricken mother is desperate for answers in the murder of her son

It’s been just over a week since Fort Erie native, Jay McGuire was gunned down in the Dominican Republic. His mother says something doesn’t add up about her son’s killing.

Joann Rhoden is still coming to terms with her son’s murder. Rhoden says her son moved to the Dominican to start a sandwich shop in the town of Sosua, which is in the Puerto Plata province.

His family says he was killed during a robbery in the middle of the night. Rhoden says her son and his girlfriend were tied up while the thieves looked for goods in the house.

It’s been well over a week since her son’s murder overseas and still Rhoden has so many unanswered questions, her frustration mounting. Adding that the only information she has received about her sons death is from his girlfriend, and the funeral home where his body was cremated.

CHCH news contacted the police department in Sosua, but were told that no interpreter was available to answer our questions. Rhoden says her son was well loved by his friends and family. A hard-working man who leaves behind a 10 year old son.

Global affairs Canada told CHCH news that officials are in contact with local authorities to gather more information, and that services are being provided to the victims family.
